Boy Meets Boy

Boy Meets Boy

This is the most "over the top" book on this site. It is not realistic, nor does it try to be. Rather, it prefers to imagine a world of tolerance and nothing but forward progression toward equality. It is world worth living in for a few moments while reading it, and it is a world worth pursuing in reality. I am grateful to David Levithan for sharing it, even if Infinite Darlene is a bit much sometimes.

About the Book

Considered groundbreaking upon its publication in 2003, Boy Meets Boy is now 10 years old and David Levithan’s debut about two teenage boys finding love is still in print and still as heartwarming. The world was different when Boy Meets Boy first appeared and attitudes have changed, but this novel is just as relevant and enjoyable as it was then. To mark the 10th anniversary, this edition features new backmatter from the author, including an original story about the scene-stealing, fan-favorite Infinte Darlene–literature’s only star quarterback and homecoming queen. David is now considered one of the most important voices in YA literature, having since authored Every Day,Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist with Rachel Cohn, and Will Grayson, Will Grayson with John Green, and fans of his more recent books will not be disappointed by his very first.

David Levithan

When not writing during spare hours on weekends, David Levithan is editorial director at Scholastic and the founding editor of the PUSH imprint, which is devoted to finding new voices and new authors in teen literature. His acclaimed novels Boy Meets Boy and The Realm of Possibility started as stories he wrote for his friends for Valentine’s Day (something he’s done for the past 22 years and counting) that turned themselves into teen novels. He’s often asked if the book is a work of fantasy or a work of reality, and the answer is right down the middle—it’s about where we’re going, and where we should be.
